Orcas That Used to Live in Captivity

Kasatka

. Name: Kasatka
Sex: Female
Capture Size: 9.5 feet
Current Size: 17.3 feet and 5300 pounds
Park: Seaworld California
Capture Date: October 1978

Kasatka has mothered Takara, a 9 year old female, who still lives with her. She recently made history for becoming the first orca in captivity to ever be artificially insemenated. She gave birth to a male calf, Nakai, on September 1, 2001. Kasatka is easily identified by a chunk missing from her right fluke. Her dorsal is also starting to lean to her left. Kasatka also has a small black spot towards the back of her left eyepatch.
She is the dominant female at Seaworld California. If any of the orcas start to be aggressive, and she's in the same pool, she will go to the rescue. She has done this several times by protecting Corky.
